For the first time, Creoles of the Carribean and the Indian Ocean join hands to celebrate International Creole Day.

TORONTO (Ontario) - The "Centre francophone de Toronto", 20 Lower Spadina is hosting Toronto's first Creole Heritage Month, in collaboration with the Canadian chapter of the International Organization of Creole People. Four events are scheduled, ending with the celebration of International Creole Day.

  • Saturday October 7th, 2:00 pm-6:00 pm : Opening of a multimedia exhibit Kote ou Sorti? Where are you from? incl. a slide show on the origins of the Creole people, posters, photographs, and sampling of Creole hors d'oeuvres.
     
  • Tuesday October 10th, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Conference by Rodolf Etienne, a writer and journalist from Martinique: "La notion du Pan-Créole: Le rôle des grandes capitales" followed by the documentary "Haiti, 200 ans de liberté" commented by the author.
     
  • Friday October 20th, 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm: Reading by Haitian writer Marie-Célie Agnant followed by a discussion panel entitled " Du chouchou au mirliton... sans oublier la christophine" with guest panelists Zilpha Ellis (University professor and translator), Voegeli Juste-Constant (writer), Reshad Nazroo (translator).
     
  • Saturday October 28th, 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm: International Creole Day - "mange kreyol" food feast, Creole music, riddles, sirandanes, tales and legends.

Première au Centre francophone de Toronto. Créoles des Antilles et Créoles de l’Océan Indien s'unissent pour fêter la Journée internationale créole.

TORONTO (Ontario) - Le Centre francophone de Toronto, 20 Lower Spadina, accueille l'Organisation Internationale des Peuples Créoles (chapitre canadien) du 7 au 28 octobre pour quatre manifestations autour de la Journée internationale créole du 28 octobre 2006.

  • Le samedi 7 octobre, 14 h à 18 h : vernissage de l’exposition multimédia Kote ou Sorti ?/D’où viens-tu? avec diaporama commenté sur l'origine des peuples créoles, affiches, photos et dégustation de hors d'œuvres créoles.
     
  • Le mardi 10 octobre, 18h à 21h : conférence intitulée «La notion du pan-créole: le rôle des grandes capitales» par Rodolf Etienne écrivain, journaliste et reporter martiniquais, suivi du documentaire «Haïti, 200 ans de liberté» commenté par l’auteur.
     
  • Le vendredi 20 octobre de 18h à 21h: lecture de l’écrivaine Marie-Célie Agnant suivie d’une table ronde intitulée «Du chouchou au mirliton... sans oublier la christophine» - autres invités: Zilpha Ellis (professeure des universités et traductrice), Voegeli Juste-Constant (écrivain), Reshad Nazroo (traducteur).
     
  • Le samedi 28 octobre, 14h à 18h: Journée internationale créole - grand «manjé kreyol», ambiance musicale créole, devinettes, sirandanes, contes et légendes de l'océan indien et des antilles.
